Griffin Group Takes on Anchor Brewing

Investor and multinational advisor Graham R. Taylor received degrees from the University of New South Wales School of Law and Yale Law School. Following a career as an attorney, Graham R. Taylor went on to found the international venture capital group Marquis Advisory Group. He currently serves as a consultant and minority owner with the Griffin Group. 

Griffin Group functions as investors, industry advisors, and merchant bankers for the boutique beer and liquor industry. It takes as its name the mythological figure of the griffin, which is part lion and part eagle. Metaphorically, the company hunts with the long sight of an eagle and protects what it takes on with the fierceness of a lion. 

The group recently acquired San Francisco-based Anchor Brewing and Distilling Company. Anchor Brewing was founded in 1965 by Fritz Maytag, whose great-grandfather founded the Maytag Corporation. Some say Maytag’s Anchor Brewing was one of the first in the trend of craft breweries that have been increasingly appearing across the U.S. Griffin Group, which is also based in California, will likely maintain the company’s history in San Francisco by keeping the brewery local.
